President Uhuru Kenyatta's visit to Nyeri has exposed supremacy battles among elected leaders tasked with his re-election campaign in the region.
President Uhuru opened the Nyeri Agricultural Show and was scheduled to later lead a meeting of Jubilee leaders from Central at the Sagana State Lodge.
It has emerged that there is a fight brewing over who should be the president's point-man in the county between Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru and Senator Ephraim Maina.
Battle lines have already been drawn and sides are being taken.
Those who have teamed up with Mr Maina include Kieni MP Kanini Kega and his Mathira counterpart Rigathi Gachagua.
A number of lawmakers are in support of Governor Gakuru.
Mr Gakuru had stated at an earlier forum; “I know two men who are spoiling for a fight with me, I know you also know them. Go and tell them that I’m your friend. Last Sunday, they met at a church here in Karatina town and started spreading lies about me, don’t allow them to use you."
He was making reference to a church service at PCEA Karatina where Senator Maina, Mr Kega and Mr Gachagua promised to team up and guarantee a 100% turnout in the upcoming polls.
Nyeri is a serious Jubilee stronghold and campaigns aren't as important to the President's campaign team as ensuring a high turnout.
The meeting set for Sagana State Lodge is expected to try and broker a truce between the opposing camps.
