CJ Maraga Should Be Charged With High Treason - Mutahi Ngunyi Declares

Political Analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has weighed in on the petition filed by Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu seeking the removal of Chief Justice David Maraga from the Supreme Court.

On Friday, Prof. Ngunyi tweeted recommending that if the petition was successful, the Chief Justice should face serious charges.

"If Ngunjiri proves his case, Maraga should be charged with high treason," he disclosed.

He further questioned how the powers of the Chief Justice would be checked after the ruling of nullifying the election of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"Who will police Maraga? How will Maraga be policed?" he posed.

The post elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans online

Meanwhile, President Uhuru Kenyatta has asked Mr Wambugu to withdraw a petition he filed against the Chief Justice.

“I understand your pain and action. But we have an election to win on Oct 17. That has to be our focus. Leave the court alone. All what we want is for the will of the people to prevail,” he stated.

On Thursday, The Town MP filed a petition with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) challenging Maraga's tenability stating the CJ had instituted "a judicial coup" as the head of the third arm of government.

"I am challenging how he has conducted himself since he was appointed to the Supreme Court. He has allowed Judiciary to be taken hostage by individuals," the Legislator stated.
