Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko Issues Last Warning to Nairobi Traders

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has issued a warning to all Nairobi traders amid the county government plans to revive the city's lost glory.

In a statement released on Friday, acting county Secretary Leboo ole Morintant ordered all individuals partaking business within Nairobi to pay the new business permits before Wednesday, September 20, 2017.

“Notice is at this moment given to all members of the business community and the public at large who have not paid for a unified business permit for the year 2017 to do so on or before September 20, 2017,” the statement read in part.

Mr Leboo further noted that the business owners must pay for the service through the eJiji pay electronic system as the county no longer accepts cash.

“No cash payment will be accepted at the City Hall office, and all other outlets, only banker’s cheque, EFTs and M-Pesa payments shall be accepted by the bank,” said Mr Leboo.

As soon as Mr Sonko took over the City hall offices, the County Government consolidated all business related licenses into one.

The business permit, which was introduced in 2016, combines five permits that are required for one to start and operate a business.

The various licenses include fire clearance, advertising, signage, health certificate, food hygiene and business license.

Mr Sonko's governorship on Friday also released new rules barring matatus from entering Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD)

The new regulations which will be enforced by City Hall, National Transport, and Safety Authority (NTSA) Board and the Administration Police have been scheduled to take effect on Wednesday, 20th September 2017.
