President Donald Trump's Administration Issues Demand to Uhuru and Raila

The United States administration has demanded that President Uhuru Kenyatta and National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga have a consultative meeting ahead of the repeat presidential poll.

Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary at the US government’s Bureau of African Affairs Donald Yamamoto revealed that the US had already reached out to both leaders with regard to what is at stake.

The top official in President Donald Trump's government conveyed the difficult request warning the leaders that "all eyes are on Kenya".

"Kenya is probably on the threshold of a great election on October 17, but it’s the issues that we need to focus on and work with ... the eyes of the world and the US government are on you, on Kenya.

"We’re not going to take our eyes away from it (Kenya). Kenya matters. If our largest embassy is in Nairobi, Kenya, that means we have a stake in that country, and Africa has a stake, and this government’s looking at where the trend lines will go after October 17," the US official stated.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) last week, announced plans to have a joint meeting with the two rivals to discuss some of the issues that have remained contentious.

The electoral body stated: "The Commission has reached out to both NASA and Jubilee for a joint meeting next week on poll preparations to update and address concerns."
