Chebukati Announces Fresh Meeting for Uhuru and Raila Teams

The IEBC has announced it has reached out to both Jubilee and the National Super Alliance (NASA) inviting them to a joint meeting where their concerns will be discussed.

The electoral body on Friday stated: "The Commission has reached out to both NASA and Jubilee for a joint meeting next week on poll preparations to update and address concerns."

In focus will be NASA's 'irreducible minimums' without which they have pledged that there will be no election.

First on their agenda, the coalition has called for the removal of IEBC officials they claim abetted electoral fraud, specifically Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ezra Chiloba and 5 other Secretariat officials.

The opposition coalition also called for a fresh procurement process for the printing of ballot papers, insisting that Dubai-based firm Al Ghurair be blacklisted from the forthcoming process.

They demanded the Chebukati-led commission reconfigure it's results transmission systems to ensure full transparency. The Co-principals added that they want the electoral body to make provisions for live transmission of results declared at the 290 Constituency Tallying Centres as they did with the National Tallying Centre at Bomas.

Finally, they called for fresh gazzettement of all polling stations to be used in the October 17th polls.

Jubilee, on the other hand, has disparaged the NASA leadership for not respecting the independence of the IEBC.

A case filed by Thirdway Alliance candidate Ekuru Aukot challenging the IEBC's decision to limit the race to two candidates is being heard on Monday. Its result could have a serious impact on the IEBC's plans for the fresh polls.

It remains to be seen how the meeting will pan out and whether NASA will agree to participate in the fresh election.
