Why Kiambu MCAs Will be Holding Sittings Outside Assembly

Kiambu County has announced that the Members of County Assembly (MCAs) will break the convention of entirely holding sessions in the House by holding special sittings in the various wards that comprise the county.

County Speaker Stephen Ndichu revealed on Tuesday that the new plan dubbed 'Bunge Mashinani' would allow the Kiambu residents to see and understand how the assembly works.

He further pointed out that the move will require the whole House to visit the grassroots to interact with the people occasionally.

"Under my leadership, the county assembly is determined to ensure that residents will get the best of representation from their Members of the County Assembly," he said.

Mr Ndichu noted that the MCAs were already trained on the rules and procedures of the assembly and were ready to start working.

The move has, however, been downplayed by some individuals who claim that the new plan is a scheme by the county workers to redeem themselves after misusing funds.

The members of the Kiambu County Assembly came under heavy criticism last week for spending Sh15 Million during a week-long induction retreat in Mombasa County.

Regarding the upcoming presidential elections, Mr Ndichu has indicated that all the 60 elected ward representatives will launch out a program in the region to campaign for President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He stated that through a slogan called 'Adopt-a-Ward' the ward-reps would lead campaigns in their respective wards to ensure a 100 percent voter turn-out.

"Our goal is to ensure all the 1.18 million registered voters in the county turn out and vote," stated Ndichu.
