Administration Police (AP) Officer Arrested with Ivory Worth Sh1 Million

An Administration Police (AP) officer was on Tuesday arrested with 25kgs of ivory worth Sh1 Million in Nairobi.

He was arrested alongside two other individuals by Kenya Wildlife Personnel while in possession of five pieces of elephant ivory in Nairobi West.

According to a police report, the officer is attached to Baram Bate Administration Police (AP) post in Garbatula, Isiolo.

Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Spokesman Ngugi Gachaga indicated that the men were found as they attempted to sell the ivory.

According to the KWS official, the suspects had already found a buyer for the ivory tusks and were in the process of sealing the deal.

"They are under interrogation and will be arraigned in Kibera law court on Wednesday to take a plea," Mr Gachaga noted.

He further pointed out that they are yet to establish the source of the ivory and that the seizure reveals that up to three elephants were slaughtered.

Mr Gachaga noted that the arrest indicates some state agents were involved in the crimes and vowed to pursue the crackdown.

The three individuals have been locked up at Lang'ata Police Station.

Last year, three other officers were arrested after they were found with similar ivory.
