KNEC Speaks on Leakage of 2017 KCSE Exams

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has assured the public that the 2017 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations have not and will not leak.

The Council was responding to reports that a Four Four student had been caught with purported leaked KCSE exam papers in Makueni County.

In a statement, KNEC Chairman George Magoha urged students, parents, teachers and the public to ignore such claims.

“The council has reviewed the materials and established that the documents were all fake. The documents in question have no resemblance whatsoever and are not even remotely related to the forthcoming examinations,” Magoha stated.

“The council wishes to assure the public that systems used in last year examinations are intact and that all papers are safe,” he added.

On Monday, a student of Kitondo Secondary School was apprehended with Business Studies Paper 2 and several other exam papers he had saved in a WhatsApp images folder in his phone’s gallery.

Following interrogation, the exam body confirmed the alleged KCSE papers were fake.

Meanwhile, Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i disclosed that his team was ready for this year's national exams, even as the current political activities threaten to interfere with the school calendar.

Dr Matiang'i stated that the national exam dates would not be interfered with but clarified that he would advise in case of any new development.

Some 972, 837 candidates will sit the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) from October 31 while another 573,234 candidates will write the KCSE exam between November 3 and November 29.
