KNUN Secretary General Reveals NASA Leaders Behind Nurses Strike

Kenya National of Nurses Union (KNUN) Secretary General Seth Panyako has revealed the top National Super Alliance (NASA) officials he claims are responsible for the nationwide nurses strike.

Speaking during a press conference on Saturday, Mr Payako alleged that Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok and his Kisii counterpart James Ongwae are the ones frustrating the nurses forcing them to strike at the expense of poor Kenyans.

Governor Nanok is the Chairman of the Council of Governors while Ongwae heads the Human Resource, Labour and Social Welfare Committee of the Governors Council.

"Ministry of Labour called for a conciliation meeting between the national government, county governments and union of nurses and the two officials boycotted," he stated.

"We presented ourselves before the conciliator, but both the county and national government did not turn up only for the strike to be termed illegal.

"As a union, we are surprised people fighting and crying for justice are the same individuals frustrating the nurses of this country," the Secretary General noted.

He pointed out that the two county government officials had the key to unlock the stalemate adding that for them to sit back and say that they are not going to have the issue resolved is making the Union doubt where the nation is headed.

Mr Panyako indicated that the two officials should put aside their intrigues, sit down with the union and resolve the nurses strike.

He further clarified that the over three-week industrial action is still on until the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) they signed with the Council of Governors is honoured.
