23 Children Rescued From Childrens Home

23 children were rescued from a house in Wiumiririe Township, Laikpia County where they had been staying for weeks.

The children had been under the care of a woman named Beatrice Wairimu, claiming to be their guardian.

The institution is allegedly a childrens home that pays school fees for primary and secondary school students.

The place is said to have shut down last week, the children left alone, living in deplorable conditions.

Police officers raided the place after two children, aged 10 and 15 years, walked to a nearby town searching for help on how to get back home.

One of the children told Citizen Tv that she had been taken from her home in Kawangware, Nairobi by Wairimu.

She says that she had been on her way to the shop when Wairimu, in the company of another man asked her to get in the car.

She was later driven to the house in Laikipia and told it would be her new home.

NTV reports that some of the children left home when they were in nursery school and have never gone back.

One of the workers in the home said that Wairimu disappeared last week without paying her dues.

Police officers tracked down Wairimu and arrested her.

She was however at odds in trying to explain who ran the childrens home.

She will be arraigned in court when investigations are complete.

The children were taken to a children's home in Nyeri as police seek a court order to look for their families.
