Fred Matiang’i Speaks on Withdrawal of Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Muyoka's Bodyguards

Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has addressed the withdrawal of the security details of National Super Alliance (NASA) Leaders Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka.

Speaking on Wednesday, Matiang’i stated that the move to recall police officers assigned to the two opposition leaders would not be reversed.

"Scaling down of security detail of Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka is justified and will not be reversed," Matiang'i stated.

The CS further noted that he had ordered the arrest of two Members of Parliament (MPs) over incitement. He, however, did not reveal names of the said legislators.

He noted that Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet had 48 hours to apprehend them.

On Tuesday, police officers assigned to Odinga and Kalonzo were recalled and told to hand over their police radios so that they could not monitor police communication.

Raila's Spokesman Dennis Onyango revealed five bodyguards attached to the former Prime Minister were asked to report to GSU headquarters in Nairobi for further instructions.

Kalonzo disclosed that he was stripped of his bodyguards on Monday evening.

Hours later, the security detail of Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula’s security detail was also withdrawn.
