Joho Issues Warning to Government After Babu's Arrest

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has issued a warning to the government after Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino was dramatically re-arrested shortly after being freed on bail.

Governor Joho expressed concern over how the first time legislator was handled during the Wednesday evening incident questioning the conduct of the arresting officers.

"I would wish to remind security officers that we will hold each one of you individually culpable in the event of any harm to the member of parliament," the ODM Deputy Party leader warned.

He added: "I would like to remind everyone in the security services, that through the will of God, everything eventually comes to an end. It always does. We are a nation of laws and should behave as such."

He concluded by affirming that the opposition party would not relent in their pursuit to ensure the country gets a free and fair election.

Similarly, Opposition Leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday evening condemned the re-arrest of the controversial Member of Parliament shortly after he was released on a Sh500,000 bail.

In a statement, Mr Odinga stated: "We are concerned that the State is resorting to persecution, banditry and torture tactics where application and observation of the rule of law would suffice."

The former Prime Minister noted that if the Government had more charges against Mr Owino they should have merged them together and have it as one case.
