Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati’s Technical Advisor, Gekara Muoni, has dismissed reports that he was fired for allegedly being behind the series of leaked memos.
Through a letter by his lawyer Mose Nyambega, Muoni stated that he was on leave when the confidential and explosive memos by Chebukati leaked to the public.
Muoni termed the reports of his sacking as malicious and untrue adding that he was still in office and performing his duties.
The letter read: “Our client was on leave at all times pertinent to the period under reference and was thus incapable of perusing or accessing the information alleged to have been leaked to warrant your said publication."
“Our client is still in office and continues in office on the date of this letter," Nyambega added.
Reports of his sacking emerged after two memos from Chebukati to IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba leaked to the public within a span of three weeks.
The Chairman promised that investigations would be conducted to establish the source of the leaks.
In the first memo, Mr Chebukati demanded from the CEO, answers to 12 tough questions regarding the handling of the August 8th polls.
Two weeks later, another memo surfaced online seeking the suspension of three officials in the ICT department led by Director James Muhati, ICT Co-ordinator Paul Mugo and ICT officer Boniface Wamae.
