Kakamega Senator Put Under House Arrest

Kakamega County Senator Cleophas Malala has this morning been put under house arrest after police officers stormed his house and accused him of planning to lead anti-IEBC demonstrations in the county on Monday.

Speaking exclusively to Kenyans.co.ke, Malala confirmed the incident stating: "Jubilee wants to use intimidation. Let them know we shall not relent as NASA."

The Senator stated that they had sought a permit for the protests as early as last week, and received official acknowledgement from authorities only for him to receive word that the permit had been cancelled on Monday morning.

Malala claimed that up to 50 police officers were camping at his home since 9 am to ensure he does not leave the premises for Kakamega town.

He further divulged that National Super Alliance (NASA) supporters would still gather in the Western town to push for the coalitions 'Irreducible Minimums' demands.

Protests by NASA supporters are currently ongoing in, among other counties, Nairobi, Mombasa, Kakamega and Kisumu.

The coalition is demanding the immediate resignation of IEBC Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba whom they accuse of orchestrating a plan to rig the polls in favour of Jubilee's President Uhuru Kenyatta.

They have also maintained that French technology provider IDEMIA (formerly OT-Morpho) and Dubai-based printing firm Al Ghurair should not be involved in the October 26th polls.

Jubilee is pushing for various changes to Kenya's electoral laws; among them the setting up of a manual transmission system whose results are considered final and opening avenues for other IEBC commissioners aside from the Chairperson to make key decisions.

It also lessens restrictions on state officers campaigning for the President.
