The University of Nairobi (UoN) administration has confirmed that 27 students were injured after police raided the main campus on Thursday.
They sustained the injuries after allegedly being beaten by the officers who were reacting to demonstrations staged by a section of the students.
The institution, however, denied reports of the death of any student as a result of the brutal attacks by the police.
This comes just a few days after videos emerged on social media showing General Service Unit officers (GSU) clobbering students in their halls of residence.
Some of the students were seen running back to their hostels for safety, with police in hot pursuit.
On Sunday Statehouse defended the police with Spokesman Manoah Esipisu asking the students to stop allowing lawbreakers to use the hostels as hideouts.
Inspector General Joseph Boinnet also defended the officers stating that they were just enforcing the law as required.
On Monday, acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i asked IG Boinnet to give a report on the alleged brutality within 24 hours.
Last week, the students held demonstrations protesting against the arrest of Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
The students engaged anti-riot police in running battles while chanting pro-Owino slogans.
They went ahead to barricade State House Road in Nairobi causing a massive traffic snarl up.
