President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA Leader Raila Odinga to Meet Today

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga are set to meet today in a private meeting with the IEBC to discuss election preparedness ahead of the October repeat election.

In a tweet, the Commission confirmed the planned meeting stating that it was meant to create a common understanding on the 26th October poll.

The meeting is scheduled to start at 11:00 am at the Bomas of Kenya.

The Commission has been holding consultative meetings with different stakeholders ahead of the repeat Presidential election.

On Monday, the polls agency held talks with 12 foreign envoys led by US Ambassador Robert Godec and Britain’s Deputy High Commissioner Susie Kitchens who urged politicians to respect the independence of the electoral body.

Last week, IEBC organised similar talks with the representatives of the two presidential candidates but the meeting collapsed after the National Super Alliance (NASA) team walked out.

Addressing a press conference after the talks between NASA and Jubilee representatives collapsed, IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati noted that the presidential aspirants should attend future meetings in person.

"Next time we want the principals to come in person. We don't want generals to cause sideshows here ahead of the election...we must meet sooner rather than later," he stated.
