Senator Reveals Why NASA is Not Holding Presidential Campaigns

Makueni Senator, Mutula Kilonzo Jr has finally revealed why the National Super Alliance (NASA) has not been conducting aggressive presidential election campaigns.

In an interview with Kenyans.co.ke, the Senator divulged that the Alliance does not have faith in the Independent Election and Boundaries Commission to hold a credible election.

Mutula wondered whether the IEBC could assure the Opposition a free and fair election without making any changes.

“ How can they assure us of a credible poll when the same people who were in charge of the August 8 election are still in charge?” Mutua asked.

“We are not certain about the election’s credibility, we cannot campaign only for the election to be rigged again,” he lamented.

Senator Mutula remained adamant that changes within the IEBC Secretariat was the only solution for a satisfactory poll to be conducted.

“Fundamental reform by the IEBC, and that is removing Chiloba as the CEO of the IEBC, will show us that the IEBC is really committed to this election,” he noted.

The Senator dismissed Jubilee members who have filed a petition to compel NASA Principal Raila Odinga to participate in the election.

“You can not compel Raila Odinga to participate in an election. His name is already on the ballot paper, he is a registered candidate,” he clarified.

“Participating in an election is optional, it’s our supporters who will boycott the election, how can you impose your will on the people?” Mutula asked.

He claimed the government had further reduced the Opposition’s security assigning only one police officer to each leader.

“We did not attend the demonstrations because we did not have enough security, they have further cut down on the MPs security, leaving one police per person,” the Senator stated.
