Nairobi Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has spoken for the first time on his surprise move from the Environment docket with a warning to workers in the service delivery sector.

On Tuesday, November 25, the vocal county official made a surprise visit to a local health facility within the city in what was his first assignment since moving to the Citizen Engagement docket.

During the surprise visit, Mosiria claims to have uncovered a systematic absconding of duties from some of the workers, including nurses and other medical personnel.

In his remarks on Tuesday, the county official revealed he had already taken action against some of the workers by directing their supervisors to report them to the Director of Medical Services for further action.

"Today I visited some of our health centres, and I have checked every service delivery point because our goal is to ensure all services reach the citizens," Mosiria said.

"What I observed was that some staff were absent. I instructed the nursing service manager in charge of the facility to report to the Director of Medical Services."

Mosiria also subtly responded to his critics, as he insisted he would continue executing his duties with the same zeal and transparency as he did when he was Chief Officer for Environment.

He went on, "I want to assure you that the government will deliver services to the people. I will not only look at the customers but also at the people designated to deliver the services. Those who are always late or abscond from duty, your days are numbered."

In recent months, Mosiria has developed a reputation among Nairobians for his public, hands-on style of executing his duties. During his tenure in the environment docket, he conducted high-profile inspections of dumping, noise polluters and petty violators of environmental laws.

One notable aspect of his execution was the fact that he documented all his operations in real time as a way to keep locals informed.

Since 2022, this is the third time Mosiria has changed roles. His first docket was as Chief Officer in Nairobi's Health Facilities before he was transferred to the environmental docket.

The Department of Citizen Engagement and Customer Service is primarily tasked with being the bridge between the public and the county government.
