A few weeks ago, on October 7, Nairobi County Chief Officer for Environment, Geoffrey Mosiria, rescued a woman from the Nairobi CBD who had reportedly been lying unconscious for two days along a city street.

Despite rushing the woman to the hospital, the county official has now announced that the woman has passed away.

Taking to social media late Tuesday evening, Mosiria revealed that the lady had succumbed while still receiving treatment in the hospital.

"It is sad to announce the passing of a lady we had rescued some time ago from the streets in the CBD, where she had been lying unconscious for two days without anyone offering help," Mosiria stated.

"Together with our County Ambulance team from the EOC, we rushed her to the hospital for treatment. When she was rescued, our officers contacted her family, but her relative in the city appeared less concerned."

He further revealed that the deceased's family in the village had taken over the matter and organised further medical care for her before her demise.

"Today, I received a message from a family member confirming that she, unfortunately, passed away while undergoing treatment," Mosiria revealed.

On October 7, Mosiria took to social media to reveal that he had received a distress call about a young woman that a woman had been lying unconscious on the street for two days without any help from Kenyans.

As such, he mobilised county emergency services and also joined in the rescue to rush her to the hospital, as she was still alive.

However, he called out the residents who had witnessed her ordeal and failed to help her in any way, asserting that such conduct might be fatal sometimes, a warning that has since come to pass.

"It was a heartbreaking scene, a reflection of how far we seem to have drifted from our sense of humanity," Mosiria quipped when he rescued her from the street weeks ago.

"Sometimes I wonder how, in a country as warm and caring as Kenya, someone can suffer or even die in public as people look on. Where did our compassion go? What happened to the upendo (love) and uzalendo (patriotism) that once defined us?"
