At least two people have been injured after a train collided with a truck along the Pamusu-Lusaka Road in Bungoma County.

The accident occurred on Monday morning, November 24, at Pamusu Junction, where the highway intersects with the railway line.

According to reports, the driver of the trailer attempted to cross the railway line while the train approached and then lost control of the vehicle, subsequently leading to the crash.

According to witnesses, the train crew sounded the horn to alert the truck driver before the impact, but he didn't act swiftly to avoid the collision.

Following the collision, some residents rushed to the scene to steal goods from the vehicle.

Traffic police and other emergency responders immediately arrived at the scene to assess the situation and provide the necessary emergency services.

Responding to the crash, the Motorists Association of Kenya said it is time for the government to develop long-term strategies to prevent such tragedies, which it described as outdated.

"A train and a Truck collide at the Pamus Railway crossing in Bungoma. We live in a very reckless country led by carefree Kenya Railways and a lethargic State Department for Roads and State Department of Transport. How does a train collide with a truck at this time and age?" MAK stated.

The incident mirrors a previous accident in Naivasha, where a cargo train collided with a Kenya Pipeline Company bus at Morendat Junction, resulting in six fatalities.

The incident, which happened on Thursday, August 7, occurred when the bus, which had passengers inside, attempted to cross the railway line in front of the oncoming train.

Although the train driver reportedly applied emergency brakes, the distance was too short to stop in time and avoid the crash.

Following the incident, the Kenya Railways Corporation has issued a strong warning to members of the public, including motorists, urging them to be vigilant when approaching railway crossings.

"Motorists and the general public are advised to take caution when crossing the railway line at level crossings to avoid collision with approaching trains," Kenya Railways cautioned.
