Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria Rejected By Nairobi Business Community

The Nairobi Business Community, a group opposed to the ongoing weekly demonstrations by NASA, has denied claims that Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria is its leader.

The groups' Chairman, Wilfred Kamau, however, stated that they were willing to sit down with the Member of Parliament and see if he (Kuria) has what it takes to be their leader.

Kuria has lately been signing off his statements regarding the group's activities as the patron.

The Community members have in recent weeks raised questions due to their physical appearance and utterances during press conferences, with many questioning their credentials and motive.

Mr Kamau defended the group which some Kenyans, especially on social media, has associated with the outlawed Mungiki sect.

“Dreadlocks cannot be an identity of the Mungiki. That would mean that Maina Njenga and Ndura Waruingi, who were the founders, were not actually Mungiki because they did not have dreadlocks,” stated Mr. Kamau.

Speaking to Sunday Nation, he stated that the group members had businesses in downtown Nairobi, especially around Kirinyaga and River roads.

They blamed the NASA demonstrators of scaring away their customers everytime they are chased away by the police during anti-IEBC demonstrations.

“There is no definition of a businessman. Even the man selling groundnuts qualifies as one. Do not think it is only big insurance owners and bank owners are businessmen. We also have interests in this city,” he divulged.

Another member of the group, Mr. Charles Mwangi, who social media users have described as a police officer, asserted that their businesses were not insured hence any looting would be a major setback.

The Kenya Private Sector Alliance (Kepsa) last week disowned the group saying they were not members of the organization.
