National Super Alliance (NASA) flag bearer Raila Odinga has asked leaders from Kisumu County to hold ‘structured demonstrations’ to avoid violence and looting witnessed last week.
Speaking during a closed-door meeting held on Sunday night at Capitol Hill Hotel, Odinga asked the leaders to steward their supporters from the point of convergence until they reach the IEBC offices and later herd them out of the central business district.
The opposition chief also ordered all leaders to be present during the demonstrations and ensure that they control the protestors.
He further asked the leaders not to relent in the push for reforms in IEBC, with a possibility of scaling it up to more days in the coming weeks ahead of the October 26 repeat election.
Leaders who attended the meeting included MPs Onyango K’oyoo (Muhoroni), Aduma Owuor (Nyakach), Jared Okello (Nyando), James Nyikal (Seme) and Fred Ouda (Kisumu Central).
Also in the meeting was Nyanza presidential campaign team, Kisumu County leaders led by Deputy Governor Mathews Owili, Kisumu Chief of Protocol Bob Madanje and Kondele Ward Representative Joachim Oketch.
“Our party leader told us to be on the frontline during the demo and ensure we converge at one particular place when starting the demo and completing it and ensure no one is left behind to take advantage of the demo to commit crime,” Nyando MP Jared Okello stated.

“The message remains ‘no reforms no elections’. We will hold the demos on three days this week and might scale it up to every day, including weekends, upon success of this week’s protests,” he added.
This comes after a section of the protesters forced their way into Tumaini Supermarket where they made away with various goods.
Some of the supermarket's employees who tried to stop the protesters from gaining access to the premise sustained injuries in the process.
The protestors also destroyed a water hydrant along Oginga Odinga Street in Kisumu town complaining of the scorching sun.
