A 22-year old man in Murang'a County found with a stolen goat was spared death by an angry mob on Monday at Mukuyu market.
After seriously beating him up for the theft, the mob decided to ask him to produce his Identification Card and Voter's Card.
They were ready to set the thief ablaze but changed their mind in order to boost President Uhuru Kenyatta's campaign.
The residents agreed to let him go on condition that he would cast his vote for Kenyatta in the October 26th Presidential Election.
Mukuyu Assistant Chief Adams Kariuki confirmed the incident, noting that there had been an increase in theft cases in the area.

He cautioned residents against engaging in such criminal activities and promised to work with the police to launch a man-hunt for gangs responsible for similar thefts in the area.
The pardoned thief thanked the residents for their mercy and assured them that he would change his ways.
He claimed he had been convinced to steal by a friend after he went extremely broke over the past month.
Area residents cautioned thieves against the livestock thefts, noting that they would not be as lucky next time.
