Former Kieni MP Kanini Kega says the best way to tell which politicians will lose in the next election is to look at how much they are spending on their campaigns.

Taking to social media on July 2, the former MP claimed that spending more for a reelection campaign was a tell-tale sign that one was going.

The politician seemingly related his experience, having lost a reelection in 2022, to paint a picture of the situation.

"If you are spending more money now than you did in the previous election, just know you are going home mapema. Ask me!" Kega stated.

Kega has been in the political battlefield for over two decades, with losses and wins surmounting his current position as East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP.

He won the Kieni MP seat in 2013 after trying to win the same seat in both the 2002 and the 2007 general elections and losing in both.

Following his win, Kega rose through the ranks to serve as the National Secretary General for the ruling Jubilee Party. In fact, Kega would become a close ally of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

After serving for two terms as the Kieni MP, he lost a reelection campaign to Njoroge Wainaina of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) during the 2022 general elections.

At the time, the ruling Jubilee had split, with one faction supporting the Orange Democratic Party Leader Raila Odinga and another one joining the then Deputy President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance.

As such, Kega would blame his Kieni parliamentary loss on the support he gave to Odinga, claiming that rallying the Mount Kenya residents to support the ODM leader had backfired on him.

Later, leadership wrangles would plague the Jubilee Party, with Kega and Sabina Chege taking over control of the party in what was later termed as an 'unconstitutional coup.'

However, a recent High Court ruling nullified the changes, effectively stripping them of control over the party and granting former President Uhuru Kenyatta full control of the party.

In November 2022, he would get back to parliament after being appointed to represent Kenya at the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
