Another Candidate Joins October Presidential Race

Independent Presidential Candidate Japheth Kaluyu has announced that he will run in the repeat presidential poll scheduled for October 26.

Kaluyu made the announcement after the High Court cleared Thirdway Alliance presidential candidate Ekuru Aukot and any other who vied in the August election to participate in the repeat poll.

Kaluyu described the court ruling as a second chance for him to try his luck in the repeat poll.

High Court Judge John Mativo stated that it was clear the upcoming election is not a runoff but a fresh poll thus all participants in the August exercise had a right to be included on the ballot paper.

The inclusion of Aukot left the door open to any qualified candidate to participate in the election.

This comes after National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga withdrew from the election, leaving President Uhuru Kenyatta as the only presidential candidate.

Odinga announced that he had withdrawn from the presidential race as his withdrawal would help the country conduct a free and fair election as per the law.

Kaluyu was the first candidate to concede defeat before the IEBC announced the August presidential election results.

This was after he became a distant sixth with 11,250 votes.

Kaluyu stated he was willing to work with the candidate who wins the race to State House for the common good of Kenyans.
