Abduba Dida Makes New Decision on Presidential Election

Alliance for Real Change (ARC) presidential candidate Abduba Dida has announced his candidature in the repeat presidential election following the High Court ruling that allowed Ekuru Aukot to take part in the fresh polls.

The Wednesday ruling by Judge John Mativo opened up the presidential race to candidates who ran in the nullified August 8th election.

Also taking part in the October 26th election will be Independent candidate Japheth Kayulu.

Kayulu was the first candidate to concede defeat in the nullified August election.

At the time, Dida also conceded but called for the IEBC to disqualify both President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga for "competing on who is the better thief".

Judge Mativo ruled that the repeat poll was a fresh election and not a run-off and should therefore, not be limited to Mr Kenyatta and Odinga.

He stated: "I still find nothing to bar the contestant from the fresh election...since 60 days is not enough for nominations, then those who participated in the nullified poll should qualify to run."

The ruling came a day after the Oppisition leader announced the withdrawal of his candidature from the repeat election.

He declared that they did not have enough faith in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to conduct a free and fair election.

They have since announced that nationwide protests under the 'No Reforms No Election' theme will take place daily from Monday next week.
