IEBC Makes Final Decision on Raila Odinga's Withdrawal

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has made a final decision on NASA flag bearer Raila Odinga's move to withdraw from the repeat presidential poll.

In a statement, the electoral commission announced that all eight presidential candidates who vied on August 8 will be on the ballot.

The Commission noted that Odinga had sent a letter indicating his decision to withdraw from the fresh presidential poll.

IEBC, however, stated that the NASA leader had not yet signed the statutory form 24A thus rendering his withdrawal null and void.

It noted that a candidate can only withdraw his/her candidature after delivering a dully filled form 24A.

IEBC stated that it had already gazetted the names of the candidates who will vie on October 26 including Odinga and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka.

The statement read in part: "In the Judgement delivered today, the court directed that the name of Ekuru Aukot can be included by way of corrigenda. However, since all candidates who participated in the last election were entitled to run in the fresh presidential election, the Commission will comply with the direction to include the names of the other candidates by the way of corrigenda."

It further states: "The commission has already gazetted the following candidates namely His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta with running mate His Excellency William Ruto, and the Rt. Hon Raila Odinga and his running mate Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka.

On Tuesday, Odinga withdrew from the presidential race stating that NASA's list of irreducible minimums were yet to be addressed.

The Opposition Chief noted that it was only through his withdrawal that the country would have a free and fair election as per the law.
