Jaguar Demands Relocation of IEBC From His Constituency

Starehe MP Charles Njagua Kanyi aka Jaguar has asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to relocate its Anniversary Towers offices located in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).

In a letter to IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, Jaguar noted that the CBD which hosts a number of local, international and regional businesses falls under his constituency.

The MP stated that the recent NASA anti-IEBC demonstrations had made it impossible for both individual and corporate members to run their businesses.

He asked the electoral commission to relocate to an ideal area like the Bomas of Kenya located along Lang’ata road.

The letter read: "Estimates show that an approximate Sh100 Million is lost directly and indirectly when your stakeholders engage you. With the planned daily NASA engagements with you starting next week, my constituency members stand to lose Sh1 Billion."

It further stated: "As the duly elected Member of Parliament for Starehe Constituency with a clear mandate to represent Starehe Constituency we hereby present our official bid to have your offices relocated from our constituency."

This comes after NASA protesters in Nairobi were caught on camera allegedly stealing and destroying several properties in the Central Business District (CBD).

In a video making rounds, some protesters were seen snatching sodas from an unknown businessman as well as destroying vehicles.

On Thursday, Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, banned all demonstrations in the CBDs of Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa.

CS Matiang'i explained that the ban was aimed at protecting Kenyans and their properties.
