The Governor received congratulatory messages from various followers with some expressing surprise in light of his controversial bachelor's degree from Punjab University.

Governor Waititu had been taken to court by former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo who alleged he had forged his academic papers.

Mr Kabogo sought to have the then Kabete MP declared unfit to hold public office due to allegations that he had breached the Leadership and Integrity Act and had a fake degree from India's Punjab University.

He further claimed that Mr Waititu had stolen his own brother's identity whose name was noted as 'Clifford' and forged the academic papers.

"Ferdinand Ndung'u Waititu, whose birth was registered on January 4, 1980, cannot be the same person as Clifford who sat CPE at Mbagathi Primary in 1975.

"It is, therefore, a fact that for 51 years of his life, he has never changed his name and has always been known by the same name in all his interactions and transactions," Kabogo told the court.

In his defence, Waititu assured the court that 'Clifford' was his name and the papers were authentically his.

In January 2017, the courts threw out the case and the Kiambu Governor was awarded a Sh50.9 Million compensation for the claims.

However, even in light of the court's ruling, some social media users sought more proof that the Governor had indeed put in the work before being awarded the degree.

Embakasi West MP George Theuri, Embakasi North MP John Gakuya and Kariobangi MCA Robert Mbatia graduated alongside the Kiambu Governor.
