NASA Leaders Defy Raila Odinga's Order

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders in Turkana County have defied the call by National Super Alliance (NASA) flag bearer Raila Odinga to hold demonstrations across the country on October 26.

Speaking during Mashujaa day celebrations in Lodwar Town, Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok and Turkana Central MP John Lodepe announced that there would be no anti-IEBC demonstrations in Lodwar during the repeat presidential poll.

Nanok stated that peaceful demonstrations were allowed in the Constitution but should be held in other towns, not Lodwar.

The Governor urged residents to maintain peace and not to be incited by political leaders to turn against each other.

The opposition leaders, however, maintained that they would not participate in the election.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mr (Raila) Odinga should put the country first and negotiate so that there is peace in the country,” the Governor stated.

This comes after Mr Odinga announced that the opposition will hold countrywide demonstrations on October 26.

The NASA leader stated that NASA would continue to push IEBC to meet its demands before holding any election.

He claimed that resignation of IEBC Commissioner Roselyn Akombe was an indication there was interference within the commission by State House.

President Uhuru Kenyatta stated that Kenyans would not allow the opposition leader to undermine the process leading to a coalition government.
