NASA Politician Arrested in Kisumu

A National Super Alliance (NASA) Member of County Assembly in charge of Kondele ward was on Saturday night arrested over claims that he disrupted training of electoral agency officials.

Kisumu Criminal Investigation officer Geoffrey Kathurima confirmed the arrest of Joachim Oketch adding that he was being held in Kericho.

"We took him to Kericho where he cannot incite the public to come and interfere with our investigations. We are allowed to hold him in any police station," the police was quoted by the Nation.

Mr Oketch on his part noted that he was arrested in Kisumu but no charges had been mentioned against him.

"These officers never told me why I was arrested. They only said I am among leaders who organise demonstrations in Kisumu," he stated.

On Tuesday, a section of Kisumu County residents disrupted planned training sessions for electoral officials in three stations in the County.

The residents stormed and interfered with the training of polling officials that was happening at the Awasi Multicultural Christian Centre.

Kisumu County Returning Officer John Ngutahi stated that the session was to prepare 399 presiding and deputy presiding officers ahead of Thursday's repeat Presidential election.

“We were just assembling and not all the officers had checked in when the incident happened. The police intervened and we had to relocate to a safer venue,” he stated.

A similar incident was witnessed in Homa Bay and Migori counties where a group of rowdy youth also attempted to disrupt IEBC training but were stopped by the police.
