Government Orders Immediate Prosecution of Former Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has ordered for the immediate prosecution of Kisumu Senator Fred Outa and former Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga for attacking IEBC officials.

In a letter to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the DPP stated that he had sufficient evidence to warrant prosecution of the two and their accomplices.

He further directed that Outa and Ms Odinga be arraigned at the Kericho Law Courts.

The DPP further stated that the suspects should be charged with entering an electoral center designated to IEBC without authority, obstructing an electoral officer from conducting his lawful duties, incitement to violence and malicious damage to property.

The DPP asked the DCI to get exhibits and photos of property damaged during the incident.

He further ordered a statement and a P3 form from the main complainant, Diana Odhiambo, who was allegedly assaulted during the attack.

Mr Outa and Ms Odinga were allegedly arrested last week after youth disrupted a planned session for the training of Kisumu Central presiding officers and their deputies.

The two had vowed to thwart any attempts by the electoral commission to oversee the fresh presidential election scheduled for October 26.

They stated that nobody should take up IEBC jobs or offer any services to the poll agency until there are electoral reforms to enhance a credible poll.

“We are saying no reforms, no elections. Anybody planning to continue with those seminars is not welcome here. There will be no elections on October 26," Ms Odinga announced.
