Ababu Namwamba to Collect ICC Evidence Against Raila Odinga

Council of Kenya Professionals (CPK) led by Chairman Ababu Namwamba has announced that they will collect evidence and use it in a case filed against the National Super Alliance (NASA) at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

In a press briefing, Mr Namwamba stated that they had dispatched a team of observers and researchers to monitor, record and document any acts of violence during the repeat Presidential poll.

He further stated that the council had also resolved to petition the Peace and Security Council of the African Union, the United Nation’s Security Council and the Office of the Rapporteur on Genocide to collect evidence, prosecute and hold to account those responsible for the violence.

Namwamba noted that the council had already launched a case at the ICC against key NASA leaders among them Raila Odinga, Senator James Orengo and Kalonzo Musyoka.

The former Budalangi MP condemned Mr Odinga's election boycott call terming it a selfish move.

“We have set up a command centre where we shall receive live updates of what will be going on across the country, those who want to boycott the elections can do so but they should not interfere with the rights of other Kenyans,” Namwamba stated.

“It was NASA that went to Supreme Court, occasioning the repeat of the presidential elections. Calling for the boycott is in contempt of the Supreme Court ruling, disrespect for the rule of law and the Constitution,” he added.

This comes after ICC confirmed receiving a petition filed against NASA leaders Odinga and Musyoka.

The petition was filed by two Kenyans, Kenneth Otieno and Martin Nkari, asking the ICC Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda to launch investigations on the Opposition leaders over allegations of inciting Kenyans into violence.

Some of the allegations listed in the petition include; ethnic violence, mobilization and profiling, rape, sexual and gender-based crimes, targeted aggression, violent utterances and constant call to violent demonstrations and call to arms.
