Raila's Announcement on Rejoining Presidential Race 1 Day to Election

Opposition leader Raila Odinga on Monday announced that he will not rejoin the repeat Presidential election scheduled for Thursday 26th October 2017.

Addressing his supporters in Kisii, Mr Odinga explained that rejoining the Presidential contest now will make him look like a "flower girl".

The former Prime Minister claimed that the Jubilee Party had already set up rigging mechanisms which make the playing field unlevel.

He further explained that since IEBC had not implemented their "irreducible minimums", the coalition had no other option other than boycotting the contest.

Mr Odinga also noted that former IEBC Commissioner Roselyn Akombe's statement that the Commission was not in a position to conduct a credible poll was enough justification for the polls to be canceled.

"I still insist that I am not going to participate in an already flawed exercise. If I do so then Jubilee will see me as a flower girl. I am categorically stating that there will be no election on Thursday.

“The Commission is divided that is why commissioner Akombe resigned. The chairman himself Chebukati has since given a testimony that the body is unable to conduct a free and fair election,” he stated.

National Super Alliance (NASA) Co-Principal Kalonzo Musyoka addressed the crowd via video call from Germany and thanked the community for embracing the no reforms no election campaign.

Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi, on his part, called for the resignation of all IEBC officials who had been accused of bungling the August election.
