NASA Reveals Why Chebukati Postponed Elections In Four Counties

The National Super Alliance (NASA) has spoken out on the postponement of elections in four counties; Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay and Migori by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Suna East MP Junet Mohammed revealed that it was down to ethnic profiling as voting had also failed to take off in other regions including Coast, Western Kenya, areas of Nairobi and parts of North Eastern Kenya.

He also alleged that there was a plan to ship in security officers from other parts of the country once today's elections are done and deploy them to the four counties, where they would work with chiefs to force people to vote.

He stated: "IEBC's decision to postpone elections in Nyanza amounts to ethnic profiling. There was no voting in 85% of Coast, Western Kenya, Nairobi and North Eastern Province.

"They want security apparatus to finish their business in Jubilee strongholds, take them there, force people to vote and use chiefs to vote," he added.

Mr Mohammed also warned IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati against announcing results based on 'manufactured results'.

He had alleged that IEBC Chief Executive Ezra Chiloba, despite supposedly having taken a three-week leave, was making calls to election co-ordinators in NASA strongholds to manufacture results.

IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati announced the postponement of the Presidential election in the four counties to October 28th.

He explained that the postponement was due to security challenges.

He further noted that he had sought direction from the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet.
