NASA Supporters Use Bees to Block Polling Station

A group of youth allied to the National Super Alliance (NASA) used a swarm of bees to block a polling station in Malava Constituency, Kakamega County.

Police had a rough time controlling the group which blocked voters from accessing the centre.

They had carried a hive full of bees to Matsakha Primary School polling station forcing IEBC officials to call officers from Malava Police Station.

This confrontation led the handful of voters who had arrived at the station to move away fearing an attack by the bees.

Malava OCPD Anne Muli led an operation to fight the bees and some youth were arrested on grounds of disrupting voting.

Police had earlier apprehended another group at Matsakha and Shilongo for attempting to interfere with the process.

This is not the first time protesters have used bees as a similar incident occurred in September outside the Supreme Court during the nullification of the Presidential election.

During the incident, police and protesters outside the Court were forced to flee after they were attacked by bees.

A physically challenged man, who was near the premise, was also injured after being stung by the bees.

The fresh presidential election was received differently in several parts of the country as voter turn out remained low.

This is after NASA leader Raila Odinga asked his supporters to boycott the process because it was a sham.

In counties such as Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori and Kisumu, no election took place forcing Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati to postpone the poll to Saturday.

Residents of the area have maintained that they will still not vote and have asked the IEBC chair to stop forcing them to participate in the exercise.
