NASA Protestors Rescue GSU Officers

National Super Alliance (NASA) protesters in Kisumu came to the rescue of GSU officers after their water cannons broke down.

The incident occurred after a water cannon being used by the anti-riot police to quell protests in the area veered off the road and rammed into a wall in Milimani estate, Kisumu.

The canon broke its steering rod, veered off the road and landed in a ditch but the locals immediately joined in with the help of a lorry to pull the cannon away from the wall.

The officers were hostile at first and did not want any help from the locals but later they accepted to be aided.

One of the demonstrators who happened to be a mechanic offered his services and fixed it without charging a dime.

Another demonstrator offered welding services but at a subsidised fee for work that took close to three hours.

The locals spoke about the current events with the police urging for peace and explaining why they demonstrate.

"Our demonstrations are for a worthy cause and this doesn't mean that we are not humane in any way,” one youth stated.

"Luos are always friendly, more so if you don't violate their rights," another protestor added.

In the past, the protestors have expressed the need for an opportunity to get hold of the canon and either puncture the tank or set it ablaze.
