Our Lives Are in Danger - Jubilee Officials

Jubilee Shinyalu Branch Chairman, Benedict Sabala, has claimed that the Party's officials have been receiving death threats and have been attacked since they cast their votes in the October 26th repeat Presidential election.

He alleged that they have received messages indicating their fingers will be chopped off, specifically the one marked with indelible ink, and that they have been forced to send their wives and children into hiding.

Mr Sabala stated: “We knew some leaders from the Opposition were planning to attack us and we informed the security agencies, but no action was taken.”

He further claimed that election officials had informed the NASA supporters how they voted, and they had since been threatened that their houses would be burnt down.

"We have received threats that our houses will be burnt. This has prompted us to send our wives and children into hiding as we wait for the situation to cool down. Also, election officials alerted our opponents on how we voted, which saw youths attack us at Khayega market," Sabala stated.

Patrick Anguba, who served as a Jubilee Party agent at Khayega Primary School, claimed he was pelted with stones and seriously roughed up by youth following the election.

He further alleged that he was robbed as rowdy youth lit bonfires on the roads.

“They took my phone worth 10,000, wallet, Sh650, and personal documents. They even threatened to unzip me. They also came with kerosene and lit bonfires,” Anguba claimed.

Western Kenya witnessed a low voter turn-out in the repeat poll as residents heeded NASA leader Raila Odinga's call not to take part in the election.

Mr Odinga has maintained that the election was a sham and has demanded fresh elections to be held within 90 days.
