NASA MP Arrested For Insulting President Uhuru Kenyatta

A National Super Alliance Member of Parliament was arrested on Monday over remarks he made against President Uhuru Kenyatta at a NASA rally last week.

Mwingi Central legislator Gideon Mulyungi was finally apprehended in the afternoon after the police earlier raided his home but missed him.

The Wiper Party MP is accused of having insulted President Kenyatta's manhood and is expected to be arraigned in court later in the day.

On Friday, detectives led by acting County DCI boss Simon Mwongera searched the MP’s home at Kalisasi Village in Mwingi but did not find the lawmaker.

He is accused of using unprintable words against President Kenyatta, Foreign Affairs PS Monica Juma and Kitui South MP Rachael Nyamai.

The lawmaker is also in trouble for allegedly using abusive language against Kenya’s Ambassador to Turkey Kiema Kilonzo and former Kitui Senator David Musila.

"He is not a superman. What is he trying to show us? If he removed his trousers and I remove mine, you will realise that my manhood is bigger than his. He is not a special man," Mr Mulyungi stated.

The legislator is further facing investigations over another incident where youths stoned vehicles of Jubilee campaigners in Mwingi town.

Dr Mulyungi, a first-time MP and an architect by training who was Public Works PS during President Mwai Kibaki’s regime, hurled the obscenities in public.

Kitui County Commissioner Boaz Cherutich stated that police were reviewing the video footage of the MP’s speech and he would answer to charges of hate speech in court.

He warned politicians against remarks that demean people before their families and society affirming that such comments can only be made by a "madman".

“No one is above the law. We’ve opened investigations into the matter and the footage has been translated to enable detectives to get the full context of his speech as they prepare charges,” the County Commissioner stated.
