New Plan to Block IEBC From Conducting Election Unveiled

A leading candidate in the race for the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Presidency, Nelson Havi, has demanded that the election be overseen by an audit firm and not the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

With the poll slated for February 2018, Havi has maintained that the IEBC is compromised and could be used to rig the election.

In an exclusive conversation with Kenyans.co.ke, Havi stated: "More than half the lawyers don't want IEBC to oversee the election.

"The last one was conducted by IEBC, and they were used to install Pro-Jubilee candidates."

He promised to raise the issue at a Special General Meeting (SGM) of the society scheduled for November 11.

Mr Havi divulged that key decisions pertaining to the election, including the body supposed to oversee the process, will be made at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) which is to be held at a later date.

Havi, a vocal supporter of the National Super Alliance (NASA), alleged that the Jubilee-leaning leadership of the society was determined to ensure the IEBC handles the hotly contested poll.

He affirmed that the IEBC could not conduct the poll as it had already shown signs of being partisan.

The IEBC was accused by NASA of serving Jubilee Party interests in the Presidential election.

This led to the withdrawal of NASA leader Raila Odinga from the race in which President Uhuru Kenyatta was declared the winner.
