Joho Shamed After Latest Announcement

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has been rebuked over his call for secession of the Coastal region from the country.

On Friday, Jubilee Party Politician Suleiman Shahbal, who ran against Joho in the August 8 election, termed the campaign as a misguided motive by Joho.

"The campaign is nonsense with only two leaders forcing it on the throats of residents. It is a continuation of unnecessary political noise which has become their style of politics," he chided.

He added that the Governor and his team could not sell the self- determination agenda stating that he (Joho) should instead deal with important issues in the county.

"Instead of using their time in office to help improve the lives of our people, they are busy calling press conferences," he conveyed.

This came after a section of National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders led by the Mombasa Governor, Amason Kingi (Kilifi) and Senator Stewart Madzayo announced the commencement of a process to secede the coastal region from Kenya.

Addressing the media on Friday afternoon, the leaders explained that the Government had no moral authority to govern them and as such, they had begun the process of pulling out from Kenya.

"It is no longer feasible for us as a people to continue in a country that doesn't recognize our aspirations as legitimate.

"We, therefore, wish to announce the beginning of a consultative process towards secession of the coastal region," the statement read in part.

After the announcement, Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) termed secession talks by  Joho and Kingi as insincere and selfish.

The MRC questioned the motives of the governors, further adding that they had never supported the movement when they called for secession years ago.
