Why Protesters Were Carrying Kenyan Placards During US President Trump's Visit to Hawaii

United States President Donald Trump was on Saturday received with welcome to Kenya posters during his official visit of Hawaii.

President Trump arrived in Hawaii only to be met a group of protesters carrying placards written: "Welcome to Kenya".  The protesters were against the President's immigration policies.

They carried the placards to tease President Trump who had accused the former US President Barrack Obama of being born in Kenya yet he had be born in Hawaii.

The group of about 200 people had gathered at the state Capitol on Friday to protest Trump's visit, they had even demanded that Trump leaves the state calling for his impeachment.

President Trump had been one a huge supporter of the "birther conspiracy" which accused Obama of lying about being born in Hawaii.

The movement was prominent during Obama's election campaigns, with many of his opponents speculating that he was not born in Hawaii as he claimed.

The conspiracy theory gained momentum as not being born on United States soil bars people from holding the office of President.

Trump, however, later acknowledged that Mr Obama had been born in Hawaii and called upon the people to forget about the issue and come together to 'make America great again'.

“President Barack Obama was born in the United States, period.

“Now, we all want to get back to making America strong and great again," Trump was quoted by the Sun.

Earlier this week, Obama took a swipe at Trump joking that he was indeed born in Kenya.

Addressing the Obama Foundation Global Summit in Chicago, Obama stated: “The reason I’m so excited to see you all here today in part is because this is where I started. This isn’t where I was born, I was born in Kenya. That’s a joke".
