Details of Uhuru's New Cabinet Emerge

New details have emerged about changes that President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to make as he begins the process of constituting a new cabinet.

On Sunday, the Nation reported that up to seven Cabinet Secretaries (CS) are set to be fired for various reasons.

The Secretaries who are to be replaced are seen to not have delivered on their mandate while others have been considered as political dead weight.

The vacant slots will most likely be occupied by individuals who have more political clout.

Additionally, the President is planning to increase the number of cabinet secretaries from the current 19 to the maximum 22 slots available constitutionally- a source told the Nation.

Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wah expressed his support for the President to fill the posts.

“I hope he does (fill the 22 posts). I do not even see the reason why he left them not filled in his first term.

"Those posts will give us an opportunity to provide an all-inclusive government, one of the pillars of our campaigns,” Mr Ichung’wah stated.

Another avenue that the president can use to award loyalists is in the appointment of Principal Secretaries.

Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen elucidated that the new cabinet would play a huge role in DP William Ruto's 2022 Presidential bid.

“If Jubilee delivers, no matter whether the Deputy President had a hand in the appointment of the cabinet secretaries, he will still be an automatic beneficiary when he runs for the top job in 2022,” he explained.
