During the October 26 fresh presidential election, one voter was photographed voting without arms in Thika.
The photo caught the attention of President Uhuru Kenyatta who last week promised to grant the disabled man identified as John Macharia with Sh3 Million to set up a business.
Mr Kenyatta sent Transport CS James Macharia and local administration officers who traced the man to his rented single-room in Witeithie estate, Thika, Kiambu county.
“John has shown remarkable resilience in serving his nation, a great example to our youth to serve their country.
"Youth agenda is key in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s leadership, he has committed to economic empowerment of the youth by expanding youth in national development and guarantee 30 percent of all appointments, projects and budgets,” stated CS Macharia.

Mr Macharia was diagnosed with multiple physical disabilities and asthma at birth and his father struggled to cater for his needs during his early days.
“This is a dream come true. I did not believe that a young man like me with no arms could be noticed by the most powerful person in Kenya.
"I sincerely thank him for this gesture and promise to utilise the funds prudently,” Macharia was quoted by the Nation.
He further remarked that he was forced to drop out of school for treatment courtesy of a well-wisher but the surgery was not successful.
Macharia added that he sustains himself through giving motivational talks but with Kenyatta's gift, he intends to establish several businesses.
