2 Seriously Injured During Bishop Korir's Burial

Two people have been injured during the burial ceremony of the late Eldoret Catholic Bishop Cornelius Korir.

The two were injured after an LCD screen set up for the public to follow proceedings at the burial fell from the beam where it had been hoisted and onto the crowd that was seated below it.

A preliminary assessment indicates that the incident occurred after strong winds pushed the large screen which was hoisted on huge metal beams.

The screen reportedly fell a few meters away from where Deputy President William Ruto and some bishops were waiting to receive President Uhuru Kenyatta.

There was a stampede as officials and Red Cross workers rushed to save the injured who were trapped under the heavy metals.

The injured were rushed to the to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Bishop Korir died last month while receiving treatment at the same facility.

Prior to his death, the Bishop was quite vocal in matters related to politics, constantly preaching peace and reconciliation.

In September, he called out on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to resolve its internal disputes to deliver credible polls.

Bishop Korir also warned them of finger-pointing, asking them to focus more on overseeing an election with minimal hitches.
