The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has demanded the immediate resignation of Secretary General Wilson Sossion following his move to the National Assembly as an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Nominated MP.
This came after Sossion ordered KNUT Chairman Mudzo Nzili and his Vice-Chairman Samson Kaguma to vacate office six months to their official retirement in 2018.
In a meeting held in Mombasa on Tuesday, KNUT officials maintained that Mr Nzili would stay in office until the end of his term on 13th May 2018.
KNUT further resolved that no by-elections would be held next month to appoint a new chairman for the Union.

They termed Sossion’s move as malicious, arguing that he ought to have resigned the moment he accepted the nomination to Parliament.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Mr Sossion, however, dismissed reports that the officials had asked him to withdraw from office.
On Saturday, Mr Sossion ordered the retirement of Nzili and Kaguma and appointed the second KNUT Vice-Chairman, Mr Wycliffe Omucheyi, as the KNUT acting Chair ahead of fresh elections scheduled to take place on December 14.
A member of the Union, however, alleged that Mr Sossion had acted alone and the move had not been agreed upon by the members.
Mr Nzili and the Secretary-General have been at loggerheads since 2013 when Sossion managed to oust Nzili who was Secretary-General at the time.
Their differences were further fueled by political differences after Sossion accepted the nomination from the Orange party.
While Nzili called on teachers to align with the ruling party, Sossion drummed up support for the Opposition.
