Judge to Report Governor Rasanga and Gumbo For Bribery

High Court Judge Esther Maina on Wednesday stated that she would report Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga and former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo for attempting to bribe her for a favorable ruling in a petition.

During the hearing of the Siaya election petition challenging Governor Rasanga's win, she revealed that she has information that either Gumbo or Rasanga were sending advocates to bribe her.

"I will not receive money from any hierarchy, advocate or colleague," she stated, adding that she would report the matter to police and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

She told the two rival politicians, who were present in the court, to stop sending emissaries to her office, indicating that no amount of intimidation would lead to her making a partisan judgment.

She further told Ogutu Mboya, who is Gumbo's lead counsel, and Rasanga's lawyers to advise their clients on the consequences of trying to bribe a judge.

"If disgruntled, go report the matter police...you should not threaten the judge," Judge Maina conveyed.

She later adjourned the sitting until next Monday after IEBC, through its lawyer Raymond Olendo, failed to produce all the data required by the petitioner.

Gumbo wanted the electoral agency to provide the Kenya Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS) kits used in the election for scrutiny.

IEBC was ordered to provide the data by Wednesday. She further directed the petitioner to print and reproduce copies of logs to be deposited in court by next Monday.

Governor Rasanga, IEBC, and Returning Officer Ruth Kulundu are the respondents in the case.

Speaking to kenyans.co.ke, the former Rarieda MP refused to comment on the matter as he is an interested party in the case.

" I can't comment on the case, Iam an interested party in the election case,"Gumbo stated.
