Governor Sonko’s Prayer Answered As Court Shows Kidero The Door

An application filed by former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero requesting to be enjoined in a petition challenging the win of county boss Mike Sonko has been thrown out.

This comes as a relief to Governor Sonko who had posted a prayer asking God to help him win against the application which was the Goliath of the moment.

In an application filed through his lawyer, Tom Ojienda, Dr. Kidero had stated that he wanted to be enjoined as an interested party since he was a candidate during the August 8 elections.

However, Justice Msagha Mbogholi ruled on Thursday in favor of Governor Sonko stating that the application was misconceived and lacked merit.

Dr Kidero had urged the court to enjoin him as an interested party to Japheth Moroko’s petition for personal interests.

He further told Justice Mbogholi that if allowed to take part in the proceedings, Governor Sonko would not suffer any prejudice.

Dr Kidero had claimed that more than 60 per cent of Forms 37A used to declare Governor Sonko the winner had irregularities such as missing signatures by agents, while others had varied dates.

However,  Sonko implored the court to dismiss Kidero’s application insisting it was an afterthought and a backdoor suit to challenge his election.

Governor Sonko, through his lawyers Harrison Kinyanjui and Cecil Miller, questioned Kidero’s move to file the application 52 days after he was declared the winner.

The electoral agency, IEBC, also agreed with Sonko arguing that the hounded application was an attempt to file a petition through the back door channels.
