How Duale Intends to Paralyse People's Assemblies in NASA Strongholds

National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has asked the Treasury to closely monitor all 47 counties to ensure public funds are not used to fund NASA People's Assembly.

In a letter to Controller of Budget Agnes Odhiambo, Mr Duale asked the Treasury to vigilantly monitor the disbursement of county funds to ensure that the expenditure is in line with the approved budgets.

The Garissa Town MP further raised concern that county governments had been given targets of Sh50 Million per county in order to finance activities related to the People's Assembly.

“We, therefore, wish to bring to your attention, our concern of the intended irregular public expenditure on the initiative,” Duale stated in the letter.

"We also wish to bring to your attention the fact that the intended irregular public funding flouts section 12 of the Public Finance Management Act,” he added.

The Council of Professionals (CPK) has asked the Treasury and the Controller of Budget to stop disbursing funds to counties that passed the People's Assembly motion.

CPK Chairman Ababu Namwamba further called for the dissolution of the counties for contravening the law by passing illegal motions.

NASA leader Raila Odinga announced that the Assembly will consist elected leaders and the leadership of other sectors of society in particular workers, civil society, religious leaders, women, youth and economic interest groups.

The Opposition Chief noted that the Assembly will restore democracy, constitutionalism and the rule of law.

NASA co-principal Musalia Mudavadi on Saturday revealed that they will demand a referendum to change the Constitution to ensure electoral justice is upheld.
