Why Raila May Be Heading To Zimbabwe

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga may be traveling to Zimbabwe after the military takeover that took place earlier this week in a bid to President Robert Mugabe from power.

Speaking during a rally in Kibra on Thursday, Siaya Senator James Orengo declared that the Opposition chief would attend the inauguration of the new regime as he had been invited.

"Mugabe alisema miaka kumi iliyopita ya kwamba Raila Odinga haweziingia Zimbabwe. Leo hii, Mugabe ni mahabusu na Raila ashaitwa kule Zimbabwe wakati wanaapisha serikali mpya, Raila atakuwa kule wakiapisha.

(Which loosely translates to: 10 years ago, when Mugabe was President of Zimbabwe he warned Raila never to set foot in the country, but now he is a criminal and Raila has been invited to the country to the attend the handing over of power to the new regime. He will go there)" he declared.

He further revealed that the government had set plans to detain the opposition leader at the airport for the whole day to prevent the grand welcome from taking place.

"We have information that the government has plans to hold Raila in the airport from 11 am to 8 pm on Friday to prevent us from Welcoming Odinga. We will not allow," he stated.

He added that Governors affiliated to NASA would transport their supporters from all over the country to participate in tomorrow's festivities.

"Governors will mobilize their people from their counties; for example Governors Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) and Sospeter Ojaamong (Busia)" he explained.

Ther was drama before the rally, when Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Ruaraka's TJ Kajwang and politician Steve Mbogo were arrested and later freed.

Police stated that they were arrested for riding on motorcycles without helmets.
